This is an article I stumbled across about the first time a black college football player played in a game in the South. The game took place at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville on October 11, 1947. Note the prominence of Rebel flags among the Virginia fans. Virginia ended up being one of the two last ACC teams (along with South Carolina) to integrate.
